Job Opening for Instructor/Sinior Instructor in the International School of Advanced Materials

South China University of Technology invites applications and nominations from abroad for opening positions of Instructors/Senior Instructors of the newly established International School of Advanced Materials. 

University Description: 

Directly supervised by the Ministry of Education (MOE), South China University of Technology (SCUT) is one of China’s top 39 universities supported by Project 985. After over 60 years of development, SCUT has become a comprehensive research university, with disciplines covering science, engineering, business management, arts, and social sciences, etc. In 2015, it was ranked among the top 400 world universities according to Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s ARWU, and also made its debut on the 500 Best Global Universities according to U.S. News & World Report. In Feb 2016, MOE started a "dual first-class" strategy on establishing the world-class universities and first-class disciplines. School Description: 

The International School of Advanced Materials is a part of the Network of International Centers for Education in China (NICE) established the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China (SAFEA) and the Ministry of Education in 2013. NICE supports universities in establishing their own international schools by introducing international faculty members led by an internationally renowned dean, as well as a set of special academic policies that encourage international collaborations. It is attempted to assist Chinese universities to explore and develop an innovative model in higher education, academic researches, and managing administration. Combining international higher education practices and Chinese traditional experience, we try to establish a better approach for our own higher education. Since 2015, 13 schools of this kind at various universities have been authorized across China. 

The academic strength of the new International School of Advanced Materials is further supported by the ample shared resources with the School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE). With 278 faculty and staff members (including 85 full-time professors and 88 associate professors and researchers), SMSE conducts research in the fields of optoelectronic materials and devices, special glass fiber materials and laser, electric materials, functional polymers, rubber and plastics, metallurgy, ceramics and concrete, biomedical materials, and others. The university has cultivated a State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices, a National Engineering Research Center, two Key Laboratories of Ministry of Education, and four Key Laboratories of Guangdong Province. In 2015, SMSE had more than 400 SCI papers published in top journals including Science, Nat. Photonics, Adv. Mater., Small, Appl. Phys. Lett., J. Am. Ceram. Soc., J. Am. Chem. Job Description and Qualifications: 

We are seeking to appoint Senior Teaching Professors/Teaching Fellows in Material Science and Engineering. Candidates are expected to have PhD degree in one of the following areas: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Materials, Computer, or related disciplines, with experience in the innovative delivery of teaching to undergraduate-level students. 

The post holders will act as one of the key liaison points with undergraduate students and work with the school to develop and deliver a contemporary curriculum to undergraduate students in years 1 to 3. The main duties associated with the post are as follows: 

Course delivery for selected courses in Computer, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Materials, including (but not limited to): 

Computer: Computer Network Technology and Application, Object-oriented Programming. 

Mathematics: Functions of Complex Variables, Mathematical Physics Equation. 

Physics: Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics, Electrodynamics, Quantum Mechanics, Solid Physics. 

Chemistry: Structural Chemistry, Polymer Physics and Chemistry. 

Materials: Materials Mechanics, Fundamentals of Materials Science, Physical Properties of Materials, Modern Methods for Materials Characterization and Analysis, Fundamentals of Materials Processing, Materials Selection and Design, Materials Calculation and Simulation. 

Contribution to the academic administration. 

Supervision and assessment of BSc student projects. 

♦Helping the School improve its engagement with industry and enhance students employability.

Supporting and growing key international partner/s. 

Contract type: one-year contract with the possibility to extend to three years 

Location: Guangzhou, China 

Salary and benefit: 

The whole package will be RMB200,000 – 600,000, but negotiable according to the applicants’ background and is very competitive by US and UK standard. 

Start Date: from 1st January 2017
