Job Purpose Summary:

Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs is responsible for promoting and nurturing the myriad and wide-ranging goals of the Office of Academic Affairs and the broader educational goals of KIMEP University. The position requires skills in interpersonal relations, communication, organization of tasks, as well as a broad understanding and appreciation of ethnic and cultural groups.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Undertakes the direct supervision of a certain direction of operations of higher professional education on the grounds of the current laws, normative legal acts and Charter;

• Supervises academic and academic-methodological work of the university;

• Ensures delivery of academic programs, and stable functioning of all directions of academic process, as well as makes proposals for its enhancement

• Monitor the University’s teaching effectiveness and assessment efforts, with an emphasis On the evaluation of student learning

• Coordinate student academic grievance procedures in cooperation with the appropriate committee(s).

• Assist the Vice President of Academic Affairs with faculty grievances that move through the Office of Academic Affairs.

• Research and resolve confidential academic problems and complaints from students, faculty and other constituencies when resolution is not achieved at lower levels.

• In coordination with the Academic Council, compose and revise documents such as the Academic Catalogue, Retention and Promotion Process and other policies, procedures, guidelines that have as their initiating authority the Office of Academic Affairs.

• Coordinate course scheduling across the colleges.

• Design and deliver faculty development workshops and seminars.

• Assist faculty with new academic program development that requires approval and maintain a matrix that tracks program development at all stages.

• Manage the timely and accurate completion of special research projects in areas of enrollment, institutional research, faculty teaching, student learning, peer analysis and governance matters.

• Liaise as necessary with Admissions, Student Affairs, Library, Registrar, Marketing, and Department of Institutional Research.

• Support the University research grant and bidding processes.

• Liaise as necessary with University legal counsel as it affects Academic Affairs.

• Assist the Vice President of Academic Affairs as necessary for efficient functioning of the operations of the Office of Academic Affairs.

• Serve as a voting member of the Deans’ Committee and as a nonvoting (exofficio) member of the Academic Council, Research Committee and University Promotion and Retention Committee.

• Represent the university, when requested, in meetings with the Ministry of Education to advocate for accreditation issues, development of new academic programs, discussion of Ministry policies that impact KIMEP, etc. ,

• Work with and help colleges and departments in accreditation and reaccreditation process.

• Work with Student Affairs in the semiannual review of retention issues both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

• Serve as a representative of the Vice President of Academic Affairs at various functions on campus and in the community.

• In the Vice President of Academic Affairs absence, serve as:

- Chair of Academic Council
- Chair of Deans’Committee
- Representative on President’s Cabinet

• Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs

Essential Skills Needed

• Efficiently operate a personal computer and software (Google Mail, Word, Excel, etc.)

• Maintainfiles accurately, in paper and in software programs.

• Communicate effectivelyand appropriately with diverse constituencies, the University community and the public.

• Maintain strict confidentiality of records and information.

• Detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.

• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Effectively work underpressure cooperating with personnel in the Office of Academic Affairs to complete the operations of the Office in a timely and accurate manner in spite of frequent interruptions and changing priorities.

• Support needs and problem-solving efforts of special academic programs within the University.

• Communicate appropriately in potentially volatile situations.

• Understand legal issues as they relate to higher education.

• Meet deadlines withminimal or no direction.

• Identify and analyze a variety of issues and problems, making recommendations and/or taking action to resolve them.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctoral or terminal degree.

• Detail oriented with strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Aminimum oftwo (2) years ofacademic administrative experience/experience with shared governance or related experience.

• A background and criminal history check will be required of the successful applicant.

• Strong English language proficiency.

• Research/scholarly publication and university teaching experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Basic fluency in Kazakh and/or Russian

Teaching Remission

Six contact hours per week is a teaching requirement for this position.
